Aloha Shirts

People say "Casual Friday" was invented in Hawaii.  In 1966, local Honolulu Aloha shirt makers promoted wearing their shirts to work on Fridays, this soon became everyday office attire across the state.  Later, Dockers adapted the marketing concept for their khakis in the 1990s. Today, Aloha shirts are business and cocktail attire in Hawaii, including our events!

Some original brands to check out below, available at Ala Moana and retail locations around the city:

Reyn Spooner - noted for their trademark button-down collar and durable reverse printed fabrics, their  pullover is a preppy squared away look for both the office and dinner.  They have been going crazy with pop culture collaborations lately (Star Wars, Simpsons, MLB) , but patterns like "Lahaina Sailor" and "50th state flower" are certified classics.

Kahala - With a broader variety of fabrics and fits, Kahala has both fresh takes on historic patterns as well as vibrant new designs to suit different styles from laid back to ostentatious.  Kahala brings a hipper look than the buttoned up Reyn Spooner.

Tori Richard - Typically sophisticated and intricate patterns that seem to aim for a Neiman Marcus modern elegance with sleeker cuts and smooth fabrics.  Probably the slimmest fitting of all Aloha shirt brands.

Roberta Oaks - With hand printed designs and very limited runs, this Chinatown boutique's shirts  have clean and abstract patterns.  Be prepared to pay a premium for the quality.  The shop also has women's clothes, local accessories, gifts and homewares.

Costco - Our friends from Kirkland have some decent looking shirts.

Don Quijote / ABC Store - only if you are hellbent on looking like a tourist.
